Castle Pines, Colorado
Incorporated Feb. 12, 2008, Castle Pines is a city of about 10,000 located approximately 20 miles south of Denver in Douglas County, Colorado. Our 21st century city has a vision that balances the preservation of our community’s history with growth that enhances the quality of life for our citizens.
The city incorporated as a statutory city under Colorado law and follows the Mayor-Council government system.
October 2006: A committee is formed to explore incorporating the City of Castle Pines North as a means for local residents to protect and have greater control over their community and future.
December 2006: A petition for incorporation is filed with Douglas County District Court.
July 2007: A Douglas County district judge approves the incorporation petition.
August 2007: Election Commission comprised of Castle Pines citizen volunteers selects date for incorporation election.
Nov. 6, 2007: Castle Pines voters overwhelmingly approve the issue of incorporation by a margin of approximately 4-to-1.
Feb. 12, 2008: The City of Castle Pines North becomes a reality when the city’s first mayor, treasurer, city clerk and city council are elected.
March 10, 2008: Elected city officials are officially sworn in before a crowd of citizens, then immediately get to work and conduct the city’s first council meeting.

Size: The City of Castle Pines totals approximately 5,780 acres or just over 9 square miles. The 2008 incorporation of the Castle Pines included 2,437 acres which extended west and north to Daniels Park and Highlands Ranch open space, south to the unincorporated area of Castle Pines Village and originally east to Interstate 25. The 2009 annexation of the Canyons property added 3,342 acres, extending the City’s municipal boundaries east of I-25. The City’s municipal boundaries east of I-25 extend north to the Reuter-Hess Reservoir, east to Castle Park Ranches and south to Crowfoot Valley Road, Sapphire Pointe and Happy Canyon Estates.
History: At the time of incorporation, Castle Pines was Douglas County’s first new city since 1995, Colorado’s first new city since 2004, and Colorado’s 271st municipality.
